Pasture Raised Poultry, From Care to Processing

Saturday, September 5, 2026 at 10:30 AM
Narrow Gate Homestead, Lebanon — Lebanon, ME
Join Nick and Rachel LaMere of Narrow Gate Homestead on Saturday, September 5th for an immersive look at the realities of raising and processing pasture-raised poultry. You’ll gain a deeper understanding of how pasture-raised practices differ from conventional systems, and why those differences matter for animal welfare, flavor, and community health. Nick and Rachel will share candid insights from their journey as a young, family-run farm, including the challenges they’ve faced, the lessons they’ve learned, and the values that guide their work. Participants will also observe a chicken processing demonstration and learn the essential skills for those interested in raising and processing their own birds. This workshop offers a meaningful opportunity to better understand how food makes it to your plate, ask questions, and connect directly with farmers working to rebuild local food systems from the ground up. Please note: This workshop takes place on a working farm. Participants should dress for the weather and wear sturdy, closed-toe footwear. A live chicken processing demonstration will be included, please take this into consideration when deciding whether to attend. Have questions about this workshop? Email naomi@seacoasteatlocal.org.
